Compassion International Tanzania’s (CIT) governance and leadership framework is anchored on three key bodies — the Members of the Organization, the Board of Trustees, and the National Leadership Team (NLT) — which work collaboratively to ensure accountability, transparency, and the effective fulfillment of the ministry’s mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.
At the apex of the governance structure are the Members of the Organization, who exercise their authority through the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The Members provide overall direction, approve key governance policies, appoint and oversee the Board of Trustees, and ensure that CIT operates in accordance with its founding purpose, constitution, and national laws.
Through the AGM, the Members safeguard the long-term mission and integrity of Compassion International Tanzania.
The Board of Trustees forms the cornerstone of CIT’s governance and accountability framework. Accountable to the Members, the Board provides strategic leadership, oversight, and advocacy to ensure that the organization remains mission-focused and compliant with national and international standards. The Board plays a pivotal role in guiding and safeguarding the integrity, sustainability, and effectiveness of CIT’s child development ministry. Through their diverse expertise and commitment, the Trustees advance organizational goals, strengthen partnerships, and promote the well-being of the children and families served across Tanzania.
Reporting to the Board, the National Leadership Team serves as CIT’s highest executive management body, responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operational execution of the organization’s mission. The team works closely with the Board of Trustees and Compassion International at regional and global levels to ensure alignment with organization’s strategy. Composed of senior leaders overseeing Program Support, Business Support, Partnership, and People and Culture departments, the NLT drives operational excellence, organizational growth, and sustainable impact for children, youth, and communities across Tanzania.
